We had such a positive week last week culminating in our Halloween Community Celebration on Friday!  It's hard to believe we are almost half-way through the semester!

Communicating School Progress

It was wonderful to connect with many parents during Parent Teacher Conferences on Oct. 19.  We had a few technical glitches, but hopefully you were able to connect with your child's teachers at a different time if you didn't connect during conferences.  IPPs should have gone home by now.  We value parent input on IPPs, and teachers will continue to update these documents as we come to know our students through their learning.  Mid-term marks will be available after November 8.  You are always able to view your child's progress through PowerSchool.  If you have not yet setup your account, you can find instructions here

Completion Day Thursday

Thurs. Nov. 2 will be our second completion day.  Students will use this time to close gaps in their learning, including handing in incomplete work, working alongside teachers to supplement learning and/or enriching their learning.  The regular Thursday schedule will apply for those students who need to access their teachers.  Otherwise, they should remain in their mentor classroom.  Students who have CT Centre classes are still expected to attend those classes.  Phil and Alix have planned an off-site activity for their Physical Education classes.  Students who have completed all their work can connect with Phil or Alix to possibly attend billiards in the afternoon. (interested students will need to have permission forms returned by Wednesday)

Career and Post-Secondary Days

A group of students will be attending SAITs Try-A-Trade on Friday, Nov. 3 with Phil and Kate.  SAIT has generously provided bussing.  Those students who are attending should return permission forms to Phil by Thursday.

Grade 12 students are invited to attend the Post-Secondary Fair at Central Memorial on Tuesday afternoon, 1:00 - 3:00. This document provides some questions students may want to ask recruiters. QUESTIONS_TO_ASK_A_RECRUITER.pdf . Jen and Tracy will meet later this week with Grade 12s to review the D2L shell with grade 12 information about post-secondary, scholarships and graduation.

Alti Spirit Gear and Fundraising

Those students who ordered gear are able to pick it up in the office once they have paid online.  We will setup one more order to hopefully be delivered for Christmas.  Stay tuned.

Once again our gardening students are hoping to raise some funds to be able to plant perennials around the school in the Spring.  There are a variety of beautiful winter products available which will be delivered by Dec. 8 so they can be enjoyed during the season!  Please see our Fundraising page on our website for more information.

Winter is coming!

As the weather starts to get colder and the trek to school more challenging, please let us know if your student needs winter gear.  As we are an All In For Youth school, we have access to agencies to support ensuring students have appropriate winter gear. If you have extra mittens, gloves, toques or warm winter jackets suitable for teenagers, we would welcome them at the school.

Please also let us know if you student will be late or absent because of weather or illness.  Attendance is imporatant for student success, but we recognize the challenges of getting to school when the weather is poor.
