Winter has definitely arrived this weekend!

We have only 10 more instructional days until Winter Break.  Classes have settled into a routine.  Attendance and engagement are key as we head to the break.

Thank you to everyone who supported our Winter Plant Fundraiser and for picking up your plants!  We raised $350 towards student initiatives in our school. We had a few extra white poinsettias ($13) and one extra indoor planter ($35).  Please reach out to Principal Tracy if you are interested in purchasing these plants.

Report Cards and IPPs

Reports cards for Term 1 one were visible in PowerSchool on Wednesday last week.  You can view your child's progress, along with missing work by logging into PowerSchool.  Students also should be able to log in to D2L to show you what they are working on.

Hopefully you had a chance to review your child's IPP.  Please sign and return the signature page on the back, and reach out to your mentor if you have questions.

Completion day Thursday, Dec. 11

In the spirit of Mastery, completion days are an opportunity for students to catch-up, re-learn, re-assess or enrich their learning.  Attendance is expected on this day. We have a regular timetable and students will stay with their mentor except to access teachers during their regular instruction period.  ALL CT CENTRE students are still REQUIRED to attend their CTC classes on this day. This is an opportunity for students to get on top of work so they won't have any homework over the Winter Break.

Mentors will share a planning sheet with all students on Monday.  Students will be required to review their PowerSchool for each course to identify missing or incomplete work, consult with each of their teachers to determine what work they can do on Friday and what their priorities should be. In a few cases, a student may not be required to be at school that day. Generally, once completion day has passed, any work that was due prior to that day will be suspended in order for students to focus on current learning going forward. Parents and students can view current grades, feedback and missing work in PowerSchool.  If you do not have a MyCBE account, on the MyCBE page click on Create a MyCBE Account. For online help refer, to MyCBE - Creating an Account (includes instructions and a video). If you have questions about completion day, please reach out to your child's mentor.

Last Day of Classes for Semester 1 - January 23

In light of the cancellation of Diploma Exams, the CBE has scheduled classes in high school to run through until January 23.  Any final exams in courses will be done during class time in January. Teachers will notify studens of assessment expectations in their courses.

Semester 2 starts on January 28.

Emergency Response Planning

Each school is responsible to prepare an emergency response plan, as well as to practice fire and lockdown drills each school year.

On Thursday, Dec. 11 we will have a fire drill in the afternoon.  Mentors and teachers will work with students to prepare them for the drill, particulary those students who might need a bit more support.  The drill will conclude at 3:10, and students will be dismissed once it is complete.

Graduation, Scholarships and Post-Secondary Updates

Our graduating class had their first meeting two weeks ago.  They discussed the format of the day and themes.  The class has voted for Gothic Ball as their theme for this year. A D2L shell has been setup for all students on the grad list.  All information pertaining to grad will be in the D2L shell.

Graduation pictures are scheduled for Jan. 21-23.  Edge Imaging is coming on Tuesday, Dec. 9 to talk to grads about grad pictures, what to wear and what to expect. Students can sign up for a sitting using this link: Edge Imaging | Booking Your Appointment. Students do NOT need to pay for a sitting if they simply want a picture for the Graduate Composite.  Watch for more information after the meeting on Tuesday.

This time of year is the beginning of applications for post-secondary and scholarships.  Mentors will try to notify students when there are scholarships that are applicable to them.  Parents and students can also explore Education Matters Awards or Calgary Foundation to view the wide range of scholarships available. Janine will support students in exploring post-secondary, and applications for post-secondary and scholarships.

Post-Secondary visits usually take place in January during the Exam Sessions.  Because classes are going straight through to the end of January, Alti staff will set up an information session at the school in January with Alberta University of the Arts, SAIT, Bow Valley College, Mount Royal University and University of Calgary.  Dates will be posted as soon as they are firm.
