Happy Family Day!

Thank you to everyone who came to Meet the Teacher and to those who stayed late for the School Council/Parent Society meeting.  We value our parents and guardians as partners in our community.

Learning is underway in earnest this week.  Students are buckling down and getting into the core of their studies.  Attendance and engagement are the single most important indicators of success.  As winter weather returns, please encourage your teen to get to school each day when they can.  It is better to be late than to not attend at all. If your teen needs winter gear, please reach out to your mentor.

Indigenous Celebration of Joy - Friday, February 20

This Friday we are holding our Indigenous Celebration Day.  As part of our commitment to Reconcili-Action, when we asked our students what actions they wanted to take to deepen their knowledge of Indigenous ways of knowing, they expressed an interest in exploring Indigenous arts and supporting Indigenous businesses.

Students have opted into Woodland Painting, Drumming, Beading or Hoop Dancing.  All these are being offered by Indigenous knowledge keepers, elders and artisans.  Students will also be offered a sample of berry soup and bannock prepared by an Indigenous business.

Smudge will be offered for those wish to participate.

Workshops run all morning  (with breaks), followed by food and circle.  Students may be dismissed a bit early, or may choose to stay and work on work until 2:00pm.

Thanks to Lori and Alix for all their work on organizing this day, and to our Indigenous students for hosting our guests.

Grad Breakfast on Tuesday, February 24 - LATE ENTRY FOR NON GRADS

On Tuesday, February 24 @ 8:45am the staff will host breakfast for our graduating students. This is an opportunity for grads to put their names forward for speaking roles at grad, and to share stories and ideas about their ceremony and banquet.  All graduating students should arrive by 8:45am.  All other students should arrive by 10:30am.

Completion Day #1 Thursday Feb. 26

Completion days are an opportunity for students to catch-up, re-learn, re-assess or enrich their learning.  Because learning happens over time, and studentts need time to receive feedback and implement it in order to meet the outcomes in the programs of study, completion days are an important tool to ensure students are up to date in their learning. We have a regular timetable and students will stay with their mentor except to access teachers during their regular instruction period.  ALL CT CENTRE students are still REQUIRED to attend their CTC classes on this day.

Thursday, Feb. 26 will be our first completion day this semester. Once completion day has passed, any work that was due prior to that day will be suspended in order for students to focus on current learning going forward. Parents and students can view current grades, feedback and missing work in PowerSchool.  If you do not have a MyCBE account, on the MyCBE page click on Create a MyCBE Account. For online help refer, to MyCBE - Creating an Account (includes instructions and a video). Please take some time to review your child's PowerSchool grades prior to completion day. If you have questions about completion day, please reach out to your child's mentor.

NO SCHOOL Friday, Feb. 27 Non Instructional Day

Friday, Feb. 27 staff will be doing some professional learning and preparing semester 2 IPPs.  Watch for your child's IPP to come home the week of March 2 - 6.  Please sign and return the IPP, or connect with your child's mentor to provide feedback.
