We had such a beautiful day on Friday.  In the spirits of Generosity and Mastery, we are so proud of our students who participated, took risks and were so gracious and grateful to our guests.  Thank you to Chantal Chagnon (drumming), Shirley Hill (hoop dancing), Autumn Whiteway (woodland painting),  Gaelin MacDonald (beading) and Kokum's Bannock Kitchen and Catering for the amazing fry bread and berry soup. We value your teachings and wisdom in helping us to better understand Indigenous culture through the arts.

Grad Breakfast on Tuesday, February 24 - LATE ENTRY FOR NON GRADS

On Tuesday, February 24 @ 8:45am the staff will host breakfast for our graduating students. This is an opportunity for grads to put their names forward for speaking roles at grad, and to share stories and ideas about their ceremony and banquet.  All graduating students should arrive by 8:45am.  All other students should arrive by 10:30am.  Supervision will be limited for non-graduating students so please arrange for your teen to arrive at 10:30am if possible.

Grads will be asked to submit their intentions for participation in the graduation ceremony and banquet on Tuesday.  We need to have a rough idea of how many tickets we will need for the banquet in order to set the price.  Last year the tickets were $75 and we are hoping to come in close to that cost this year.

We currently have 48 students on the graduation list, the biggest graduating class ever at Alternative.  Students need to be on track to complete all the requirements of their high school diploma or certificate of completion in order to participate in the graduation ceremony and banquet. Students can see their progress in the Brightspace/D2L shell where graduation information is posted.

Our graduation day has two parts.  Students need to be dressed in their graduation outfits by 9:00am on Friday, May 29.  The ceremony this year will be at Central Memorial in the theatre.  This will allow for as many family members as would like to attend to participate in grad. The theatre is also accessible to ensure all our graduates can participate fully. There is a nominal cost for the ceremony of $25.  This includes the certificate portfolio, cap and tassel, tickets and grad breakfast. The banquet is optional and will be at the Glenmore Inn in the afternoon on the same day. Information about grad is posted on our website and in the D2L shell.

Completion Day Thursday, February 26

Completion days are an opportunity for students to catch-up, re-learn, re-assess or enrich their learning.  Because learning happens over time, and studentts need time to receive feedback and implement it in order to meet the outcomes in the programs of study, completion days are an important tool to ensure students are up to date in their learning. We have a regular timetable and students will stay with their mentor except to access teachers during their regular instruction period.  ALL CT CENTRE students are still REQUIRED to attend their CTC classes on this day.

Thursday, Feb. 26 will be our first completion day this semester. Once completion day has passed, any work that was due prior to that day will be suspended in order for students to focus on current learning going forward. Parents and students can view current grades, feedback and missing work in PowerSchool.  If you do not have a MyCBE account, on the MyCBE page click on Create a MyCBE Account. For online help refer, to MyCBE - Creating an Account (includes instructions and a video). Please take some time to review your child's PowerSchool grades prior to completion day. If you have questions about completion day, please reach out to your child's mentor.

Students will be given a completion day planner by their mentors on Monday.  They will need to review their PowerSchool grades and feedback, and work with their teachers and mentor to determine priorities for the day.  Any students taking CALM online with Phil or Kate will be required to attend unless they have completed at least 1/3 of their assignments in CALM.
