We had a busy week last week at Alti!  Students are working hard to finish their courses strong.  Some of our students are exploring Post-Secondary opportunities, and our Student Voice met to set priorities.  They are hoping to inspire a culture of volunteerism at Alti, and to raise the profile of our school through acts of service in the community.

Semester 2 starts January 28

As we finish up first semester, mentors will connect with students to finalize plans for semester 2.  Mentors create a credit planner to track student progress towards graduation as well as towards their post-high school goals. Reach out to your mentor if you have questions.

In the few instances where students don't achieve a passing grade in a course, they will likely not be able to repeat it second semester because of our limited timetable. They may need to look at Summer school or wait until next year.  Mentors will communicate semester 2 timetable adjustments with students and parents.

Post Secondary Lunch and Learn

All grade 11 and 12 students are welcome to attend these sessions.  Students who are not in the classes where the post-secondary is being shared can negotiate missing their class to attend, or meet with the representative over lunch. Grade 10s can connect with post-secondary representatives during the lunch break.

Mon. January 12 Alberta University of the Arts (11:00 - 12:30 in Art)

Weds. January 14 SAIT (11:00 - 12:30 in Foods)

Fri. January 16 U of C (10:45 - 12:15 in Janine's classroom)

Tues. January 20 Bow Valley College (11:00 - 12:30 in Learning Strats)

Post-secondary institutions have open houses, both in-person and virtual, regularly for potential students and families.  We encourage you and your teen to attend an open house.  Being on campus helps students to feel less anxious about applying to a post-secondary.

Scholarships

Mentors will try to notify students when there are scholarships that are applicable to them.  Parents and students can also explore Education Matters Awards or Calgary Foundation to view the wide range of scholarships available. Janine will support students in exploring post-secondary, and applications for post-secondary and scholarships. Post-secondary and scholarships have deadlines that need to be attended to.  It will be important for you to support your teen as they navigate the process of applying.

Grad Photo Sign Up

Graduation photos are scheduled for January 21-23, 2026. Students can sign up for a sitting using this link: Edge Imaging | Booking Your Appointment. Students do NOT need to pay for a sitting if they simply want a picture for the Graduate Composite.

Information about grad can be found on our website. Students also have access to a D2L shell where information is shared regularly.
