I hope you have stayed warn and safe this weekend.  We are looking forward to a bit of a warm up this week. Classes are running Tuesday to Friday as usual and attendance is cricital to finish the semester successfully.

No School Monday

Monday January 15 is a Non-Instructional Day.  The school is open, but staff will be engaged in professional learning both on and off-campus. Students do not attend school.

Grad Photos January 29-31 at Alternative High School

Grads can start booking their appointments and secure a spot by simply clicking on the link below. Just pick Alberta and Calgary on the Province and City drop down and Alternative HS is on that list.

Students may choose to participate in a full sitting which includes a variety of poses and props.  This session has an associated cost. We encourage all our grads to get a picture for our composite, which has no cost.

Mega-Block Days Tuesday and Wednesday

All students should be in attendance on these days.  We have aligned our timetable with Central Memorial to ensure our students who take classes at the CT Centre or Central will still be able to attend.  Tuesday morning will be Period 1 and Tuesday afternoon Period 3.  Wednesday morning is Period 2 and Wednesday afternoon will be period 4.  Students in grade 10 & 11 ELA and Social studies will be writing their part A (essay) exams during these blocks.  Attendance is really important as teachers have only a short time to get all assessments marked before marks are due.

Mentors will work with students and their teachers to prioritize learning and assessment focus this week.

Unique Pathways Information Night

Students and families are invited to learn more about unique pathways offered through partnerships between local post-secondary schools and CBE. Students and families can speak directly to post-secondary representatives about the wide range of program options available to students throughout their high school experience. Here is a link to CBE's unique pathways site where you can view the types of programs offered to students. Please note that semester 2 applications for unique pathways are now closed. There will be Summer and Fall opportunities opening up in the Spring.

This opportunity will be held at the Career and Technology Centre (2336-53 Ave SW) on Wednesday, February 7th from 6-8 PM. No registration is required.

Wellness Education Sessions for Parents: Teen Brain Development, January 18th, 6:30-8PM

The Calgary Board of Education invites all parents and guardians to join us in an online series focusing on child and youth well-being.

Teen brains are unique from those of adults.  Learn how these developmental differences may impact your teen's decision-making, risk-taking, motivation and learning. The implications of social media, substance use and relationships are also different for teens.  Understanding this stage of development gives us clues as caregivers on how to best respond and support healthy growth.
