After a weekend of all seasons and a loss of time, we have a full week of learning ahead!

Post-Completion Day Check In

On Friday in mentor, students were asked to send an email update to themselves, their mentor and a parent/guardian with their current grade and any outstanding work. If you did not receive an email, ask your teen to pull up PowerSchool and review their current grades as well as any work they were assigned this week that it still outstanding.

We will be asking students to do these updates regularly as part of developing their organizational and communication skills.

Community Day March 19

Students have chosen either roller skating, a movie or bowling as an activity on March 19.  Busses will leave Alternative at 9:30am and return at 12:45pm.  Students will be provided a lunch back at the school.  Dismissal at 2:00pm.

Community Days are an opportunity for students to build community through shared experiences. Attendance is expected on these day.  There is no cost for this activity thanks to the generous support of our School Council/Parent Association.  If a student commits, however, and then doesn't attend, they may be charged $20 for the cost of the transportation.

Your teen must bring back the signed Acknowledgement of Risk by Monday, March 16.

Parent Information Night: AI and Your Teen Tues. March 17@6:00pm in Teams

This presentation explores how artificial intelligence intersects with academic integrity, emphasizing the need for AI literacy so students, educators, and parents can use these tools responsibly. It outlines what generative AI is, how it works, and the limitations and risks that come with relying on algorithmically produced content. We will learn about easy basic ethical approaches to AI and effective prompting of  models—to guide thoughtful, transparent, and human‑centered AI use. The presentation also highlights how students can assert agency when using AI and how parents can support learning by fostering critical thinking and integrity. This session ultimately underscores the need for intentional, ethically grounded AI practices that reinforce—not replace—authentic student learning.

Presenter: Leeanne Morrow, Associate University Librarian for Student Learning and Engagement at the University of Calgary.
