What a great week back together as a community. In the spirit of Belonging, our students and staff had a wonderful day on Friday engaging in Halloween activities. It was a positive way to come back together after a tough time apart.
We have a busy month ahead.
Remembrance Day Ceremony Thursday 11:00am
In the spirit of Generosity, Alternative students will mark Remembrance Day on Thursday in the gym from 10:30am - 11:15am. Families are welcome to attend. Students will receive a poppy for the ceremony, and we have a donation box in the office if you would like to make a donation. This day is an important time for us to remember those who came before us and who made sacrifices that allow us to have our freedom and live peacefully. Students will be expected to be appropriately respectful.
Completion Day Friday
In the spirit of Mastery, completion days are an opportunity for students to catch-up, re-learn, re-assess or enrich their learning. We have a regular timetable and students will stay with their mentor except to access teachers during their regular instruction period. ALL CT CENTRE students are still REQUIRED to attend their CTC classes on this day. This day comes at a time when we recognize that many students did not complete work during the labour action and are feeling quite stressed. This will be a good day for them to get back on top of their work.
Mentors will share a planning sheet with all students on Monday. Students will be required to consult with each of their teachers to determine what work they can do on Friday and what their priorities should be. In a few cases, a student may not be required to be at school that day. Generally, once completion day has passed, any work that was due prior to that day will be suspended in order for students to focus on current learning going forward. Parents and students can view current grades, feedback and missing work in PowerSchool. If you do not have a MyCBE account, on the MyCBE page click on Create a MyCBE Account. For online help refer, to MyCBE - Creating an Account (includes instructions and a video). If you have questions about completion day, please reach out to your child's mentor.
January Diploma Exams Cancelled
Alberta Education announced on Friday afternoon that they are cancelling January diploma exams. You can read more here. Teachers will update students once we have more information.
School Council and Parent Association Annual General Meeting, November 18 6:00pm
The AGM will be held on Tuesday, November 18, 2024, including the election for the new 2025-2026 board. There are key roles that are required to be filled in order to ensure the continued financial support of Alternative High School activities and programming by the Parents Association.
Currently, there are a number of roles being held by parents of previous or graduating students including President and Vice President. We are inviting current parents to play a role in the school programming by volunteering one or two hours roughly six times a year to continue the work of the association. Please reach out to ahs.pa.president@gmail.com or Principal Tracy if you are interested in putting your name forward.
