In the spirit of Generosity thank you to everyone who was able to attend our Meet the Teacher on Tuesday night, and especially to everyone who stayed after for our School/Parent Council meeting.  Parents are important partners in learning and supporting our school.  We will be looking to fill a few key position on Parent Society especially.  This group of parents hosts a casino every two years that funds many of the enrichment opportunties for our students and allows us to keep our fees low. Reach out to Principal Tracy if you are interested and couldn't make the meeting (tadalton@cbe.ab.ca).

Please remind your teenager that they need to bring a re-usable cup or water bottle to school with them!

Attendance Matters

In the spirit of Mastery, learning is underway in earnest now.  Attendance remains the single most important determinant of success for students.  We ask our students to commit to at least 80% attendance.  Engagement in learning and successful demonstration of knowledge depend on consistent attendance.  Even if students are late, there is great benefit in getting to school and to class when they can, as opposed to missing the day.  Students will always have to make up what they miss, which can cause anxiety.  Please connect with your child's mentor, or call the office if they are going to be late, absent, or need to leave early.

Brown Bagging for Kids and the Alex Youth Health Bus

Brown bagging for kids will begin their deliveries of sandwiches and healthy snacks for our students who need them.  Mentors have identified students who would benefit from this service, but please reach out to your mentor if you want to confirm that you would like your child to participate.

The Alex Youth Health Bus is a full-service, mobile medical clinic.  Students should connect with hallway Tracey if they would like to visit the bus.

We are so grateful for the partnerships that help us to provide wrap-around supports for our students.

Emergency Response Drills

On Tuesday, Sept. 16 we will have our first fire drill in the morning.  Mentors and teachers will work with students to prepare them for the drill, particulary those students who might need a bit more support.

Terry Fox Run Friday, Sept. 19 during mentor

Terry Fox shared many qualities with Alti students: courage, resilience and a stubborn refusal to quit.  We are proud to participate in a community walk to honor his legacy on Friday, Sept. 19 during mentor. If you are able to donate to the Terry Fox Foundation, you can do so by sending a cash donation with your child on Friday, Sept. 19, or through this link: https://schools.terryfox.ca/AlternativeHighSchool

MyCBE and Demographic Forms

Parents and guardians should have received an emai last week from CBE asking them to go online and update their demographic forms.  These forms are required by Alberta Education for compliance.  Please go online and complete them at your earliest convenience.  Reach out to your mentor or Jodi (in the office) if you have questions. If you have not created an account for PowerSchool, you can find out how here: https://support.cbe.ab.ca/mycbe. You can see your child's attendance and grades, as well as pay fees and sign up for Parent Teacher conferences in this portal.
