Hopefully your family was able to enjoy this last weekend of the Summer. For Blackfoot (Siksikaitsitapi) people, the fall equinox is a significant time of harvest, reflection, and preparation for winter, marked by ceremonies and traditions that honor the earth's bounty and balance between day and night.
As we approach the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day, we will spend some time learning more about residential schools, Indigenous culture and music, the history of Orange Shirt Day, and each student will be making their own pledge to action.
Each year our staff makes a commitment to Truth and Reconili-ACTION. You can find our pledge for this year on our website on the Our School page.
Terry Fox Walk
In the spirits of Belonging and Generosity, thank you to all our students who took part in our Terry Fox Walk on Friday. It was a beautiful day for a walk!
Pizza Lunch in support of the Calgary Food Bank Thursday, Sept. 25
In the spirit of Generosity, our Indigenous Student Voice has elected to support the Calgary Food Bank as part of our actions towards Truth and Reconciliation. We will accomplish this in a few ways:
1. Families or individual students can bring in food from the Calgary Food Bank Wish List and trade it for tickets to purchase pizza and a drink. 2 food items = one ticket. Pizza will cost 2 tickets and a drink will cost 1 ticket. Students should bring their food items to their mentor to trade for tickets.
2. Students can purchase tickets for pizza for $2 a slice, as well as a drink for $1. All proceeds from this sale will go to support our food drive. Students can indicate their pizza preference to their mentor this week.
3. For families who wish, we also will collect cash donations. The Food Bank can buy $3.00 worth of food for each $1.00 donated.
Community Day October 3 - Camp Riveredge
We are very excited about our first Community Day on October 3! Your child should have brought home paperwork for our Community Day at Camp Riveredge on October 3. Community days are an important part of building relationships and belonging in our community. There are a wide variety of activities to choose from, and all students are expected to participate. Paperwork must be returned to mentors by Friday, Sept. 26.

New Logo!
While you are on our website, please take a moment to admire our new logo! This logo was created with significant consultation with students and staff about what matters to us at Alternative High School. The phoenix rising from the ashes is at the centre of the image, representing the courage and resilience of our students. The phoenix wings are in the shape of a heart to represent community and belonging, and the many colors represents the diversity and inclusivity of our student body. Thank you to everyone who helped us to create this beautiful design.
Have a great week Alti!
