We have a busy week this week!  It seems that everyone is settling in, learning is happening, our community is coming together.

School Photos Monday, Sept. 8

All students will have a photo on Monday morning.  It is important for students to have a photo as this is the picture that appears in PowerSchool and on the student school ID card, which they use for a variety of reasons inside and outside of school.

Meet the Teacher and Parent Meeting Tuesday, Sept. 9 starting @ 6:00pm

We invite you to Alternative High School for an opportunity to meet your child's teachers.  We will start in a circle in the gym, then do a short timetable rotation so you can meet each teacher in your child's day and learn more about what they are learning, how to communicate and conditions for success.

Meet the Teacher is NOT Parent Teacher Student conferences.  There will not be opportunity for individual conversations about students.  PTS conferences are Oct. 20.

Please also consider joining us for our School Council and Parent Association meeting at 7:00pm. We will need several key positions filled this year, especially on our Parent Association (fundraising) society.  There are only 6 meetings a year, and this is a great way to be connected to your child's learning. We rely on the Parent Association for funding so we don't have to charge activity fees.

Lunch and Snacks

Pack a healthy lunch and snacks.  Although we have in the past been able to offer food for breakfast and snacks, as well as sandwiches for lunch for those who need them, this year our budget will be limited.  Brown bagging for kids will be providing sandwiches in limited quantities beginning Monday.  Please reach out to your child's mentor if your child would benefit from this service. There will be light breakfast items available prior to 8:55am for those students who might need them. Tracey's room will be open during morning break and at lunch and she will have snacks available for students who may have forgotten to bring food from home.

Please also send a reusable beverage cup good for both hot and cold. We are no longer providing cups to students on a regular basis as they often leave them in lockers or around the school. We do not have a way to mass clean re-usable cups at school. Encourage your child to wash out their cup each night at home. If you have extra re-usable cups and would be willing to donate them for student use, please drop them off or send them with your child.

Calgary Transit Passes

A reminder to have your child connect with their mentor or Tracey if they need a Calgary Transit Pass.  We have passes available for students who need them for short term while families apply for Fair Entry through the City of Calgary.

Terry Fox Run Friday, Sept. 19 during mentor

Terry Fox shared many qualities with Alti students: courage, resilience and a stubborn refusal to quit.  We are proud to participate in a community walk to honor his legacy on Friday, Sept. 19 during mentor. If you are able to donate to the Terry Fox Foundation, you can do so by sending a cash donation with your child on Friday, Sept. 19, or through this link: https://schools.terryfox.ca/AlternativeHighSchool

MyCBE and Demographic Forms

Parents and guardians should have received an emai this week from CBE asking them to go online and update their demographic forms.  These forms are required by Alberta Education for compliance.  Please go online and complete them at your earliest convenience.  Reach out to your mentor or Jodi (in the office) if you have questions. If you have not created an account for PowerSchool, you can find out how here: https://support.cbe.ab.ca/mycbe. You can see your child's attendance and grades, as well as pay fees and sign up for Parent Teacher conferences in this portal.
