Thurs. Oct. 3 Community Day

This Thursday will be our first whole school community day at Camp Horizon.  Students should have returned their signed paperwork to their mentor last week.  Students also should have filled out a sandwich order form so the Foods class can prepare lunches for Thursday.  These days are an important opportunity for our students to connect and have experiences outside the school.  Currently the weather looks nice, but students should be prepared for a variety of temperatures and conditions.  Please reach out to your mentor if you need support with appropriate clothing for the day.

Students should arrive by 8:55am.  The busses will return approximately 2:45pm, and students will be dismissed upon return.  Staff will remain at the school until regular dismissal time (3:25pm).

PowerSchool and Grades

Parents can sign up for notifications in PowerSchool so they are aware of their child's current grades, attendance and missing work.  When teachers enter grades, they are updated in the live environment, so your child's grade might change signficantly in a short period of time as new grades are entered.  Grades will appear in Term 1 (which ends Oct. 29) and Semester 1 (which ends in January).  Students and parents should be focused on individual assessments and feedback at this stage in the semester, rather than the overall grade.

If you do not have a MyCBE account, on the MyCBE page click on Create a MyCBE Account. For online help refer, to MyCBE - Creating an Account (includes instructions and a video).

Parents will use MyCBE to sign up for Parent Teacher Student Conferences coming up on Oct. 24 & 25. More information to follow.

Alternative HS Fundraising Casino - Volunteers Still Needed!

The Parents Association has been given the dates for our next casino: November 22 & 23, 2024 at the Deerfoot Inn & Casino.  To learn more about the event, read the attached casino newsletter or visit our school website. Volunteer forms are attached here or there are printed copies in the main office at the school.

This casino is the primary fundraiser for our school.  These funds allow us to offer extensive enrichment and programming to our students that would otherwise be impossible or parents would have to pay.  Please consider signing up.

Thank you to everyone who has already signed up!

If you are able and interested in volunteering, please sign-up at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0A4FA4AA28A5FCC16-51558630-casino#/

Donations to Alternative High School

Several parents have asked if it is possible to donate to Alternative High School if they are unable to volunteer at the casino.  Education Matters allows the public to donate to specific schools in Calgary Board of Education.  This is completely optional.  You can find out more here.
