Welcome to the new school year!

We hope your family has had a magnificent Summer.  We are looking forward to welcoming students on September 2. Staff will return to work on August 27, but will be in meetings, training and preparing for the new year.  Please reach out and make an appointment if you have questions for your mentor or Administration.

September 2 First Day Back Staggered Entry

8:55am - 3:25 pm Students New to Alternative HS

In order to facilitate getting to know our new students, we will welcome ONLY students new to the building at 8:55am.  Students will spend the morning with their mentor group and do a short timetable run through.

12:30pm - 3:25 pm Returning Alti Students

Returning students will attend for the afternoon.  Mentor groups will meet for part of the afternoon, followed by a short timetable run-through.

What to bring on the first day

Students should bring something to write with and something to write on. We have some school supplies for students who need them.

Pack a healthy lunch and snacks.  There will be no food available, even in Tracey's room, the first week of classes. Although we have in the past been able to offer food for breakfast and snacks, as well as sandwiches for lunch for those who need them, this year our budget will be limited.  Brown bagging for kids will be providing sandwiches in limited quantities.  Please reach out to your child's mentor if your child would benefit from this service.

Getting to School

Most Alternative HS students use Calgary Transit to get to school.  There is parking available in our back parking lot (beside the soccer field) if students are able to drive. If you are dropping your child off, please either use the kiss and drop on 20 Street SW, or drive all the way around the back of the school.  The parking lot at the front of the school gets very congested with cars and students which creates dangerous conditions

Schedules and Calendar

Student timetables will be viewable on PowerSchool on August 29.  We will endeavor to have them as accurate as possible at that time, but there may still be changes depending on Summer School results and staffing updates.

Please use our website for information about the bell schedule and calendar.  We strive to keep it up to date. https://alternative.cbe.ab.ca/

Parents will need to update their information in PowerSchool.  This will include demographic information and consent forms.  If you have not created an account for PowerSchool, you can find out how here: https://support.cbe.ab.ca/mycbe

Parents please also subscribe to school emails as this weekly message is our primary form of communication.

Wednesday, September 3 Regular Classes

Wednesday will be a regular school day.  Students with courses at the Career and Technology Centre will start on this day.

Please reach out to your child's mentor or the school office if you have questions.
