Support for Students at the CBE

Our students’ success is our top priority and we understand that our students live complex lives and that many factors both in school and outside of school can affect their ability to learn. The CBE offers a variety of services (such as Culture and Linguistic Support, Exceptional and Special Needs, and Psychological Services) to support students, their families and our school, so students can be successful learners.

Mentorship Program

Each student upon registration will be placed in a mentor group. This mentor will remain consistent throughout the student’s program at Alternative High School. The purpose of the mentorship program is to create a personal close relationship between students and a staff member. Mentors will support students in managing their learning in order that they may maximize their potential, develop their skills, improve their performance and become the person they want to be. The mentorship relationship is based on mutual trust and respect and has at its focus the success of students. The mentor group is an opportunity as well to create strong relationships with other mentees as support through your AHS journey. Mentors meet daily within a scheduled time block. The mentor should be the first line of communication and liaison with parents and other supports.

Student Voice

Students have an opportunity to offer input and suggestions on operational decisions in our school through our Principal's Advisory Council.  A representative from each mentor group meets monthly with Administration to bring insight and suggestions from their peers, and to offer student input on decisions in the school that affect student experiences.
