This weekly update will be the first one that reaches every student who is registered at Alternative High School this semester! We have many new families who we are excited to welcome. In the spirits of Generosity and Belonging, our students and staff have been very kind about welcoming new students to their courses. We will begin briefings for Semester 2 admissions in November.
Virtual Parent Teacher Student Conferences Oct. 19 10:00am - 2:00pm
Parents will have an opportunity to connect with their child's teachers through Microsoft Teams on Oct. 19 from 10:00am - 2:00pm. Sign up for PT Conferences using MyCBE closes Monday, Oct. 19 at 9:00am.
There will not be anyone in the office on Monday morning. If you missed signing up to meet with a teacher, you can reach out to them with your questions. If you are having technical trouble with Teams, email the teacher you are scheduled to meet and they may be able to connect on the phone. Please remember that teachers only have a short time for each family. If you have questions that take more time, please book a meeting on a subsequent date with more time.
Parents and students can view current grades, feedback and missing work in PowerSchool. If you do not have a MyCBE account, on the MyCBE page click on Create a MyCBE Account. For online help refer, to MyCBE - Creating an Account (includes instructions and a video).
Instructions for signing up for Parent Teacher Conferences can be found on our website.
Spirit Week Oct. 26 - Oct. 30
Students will have the opportunity to participate in Spirit Week leading up to Halloween. Our Student Voice has chosen themes for each day:
Mon. Oct. 26 Mentor Theme (each mentor group chooses a theme)
Tues. Oct. 27 PJ Day
Weds. Oct. 28 Teacher/Student Swap
Thurs. Oct. 29 Dress your interest
Fri. Oct. 30 Halloween costume, trick or treating
We gently remind students that school is a place of business, so costumes should be appropriate for school and chosen with awareness of their affect on other students. We generally don't allow weapons, excessive blood or masks.
Remembrance Day Ceremony, Call for Contributions by Oct. 23
As we prepare for our school’s Remembrance Day Ceremony, we would like to invite students and families to help make the ceremony more personal and meaningful by sharing pieces of their own family’s histories and experiences.
If your student or family would like to contribute something, please contact Brett at bcdibble@cbe.ab.ca by October 23 so that we can work together to determine how it could be included in the ceremony.
Term 1 Report Cards November 9
Term 1 ends on Oct. 30. Only a few of our courses are single term, 3 credit, but for those that are, a final grade for those students will be calculated based on work completed by Oct. 30. Students in semester-long courses will also receive a mid-term grade and comment based on work completed by Oct. 30. It is important for students to stay current in their learning.
