Our first Community Day on Friday was a huge success.  Students engaged in archery, low ropes, climbing and collaborative games and the weather was beautiful!  In the spirit of Mastery, we are so proud of our students for being willing to take risks in new activities.

Completion Day Thursday, Oct. 8

In the spirit of Mastery, our first completion day will be on Thursday. Attendance is expected on this day for most students.

High school courses are designed so that learning happens over time and with many opportunities for feedback for students so they can work towards mastery in the outcomes in the programs of study.  Each set of skills and knowledge builds on what has happened before.  For that reason, and to avoid the anxiety associated with missing work, we offer completion days to allow students to ensure they are up to date in their learning.

Students will use completion day to close gaps in their learning, including handing in incomplete work, working alongside teachers to supplement learning and/or enriching their learning.  The regular Thursday schedule will apply for those students who need to access their teachers.  Otherwise, they should remain in their mentor classroom.  Students who have CT Centre or Central Memorial classes are still expected to attend those classes.

Mentors will share a planning sheet with all students on Monday.  Students will be required to use PowerSchool to determine what work they can do on Thursday and work with their teachers to determine what their priorities should be. In a few cases, a student may not be required to be at school that day. Generally, once completion day has passed, any work that was due prior to that day will be suspended in order for students to focus on current learning going forward. Parents and students can view current grades, feedback and missing work in PowerSchool.  If you do not have a MyCBE account, on the MyCBE page click on Create a MyCBE Account. For online help refer, to MyCBE - Creating an Account (includes instructions and a video). If you have questions about completion day, please reach out to your child's mentor.

Remembrance Day Ceremony, Call for Contributions

As we prepare for our school’s Remembrance Day Ceremony, we would like to invite students and families to help make the ceremony more personal and meaningful by sharing pieces of their own family’s histories and experiences.

If your family has a connection to military service, wartime experiences, peacekeeping, or other stories connected to remembrance, we welcome the opportunity to include them in our ceremony. Contributions could include photographs, letters, medals or other artifacts, family stories, or information about a relative or community member.

Students would be asked to share and present their family’s contribution, or a topic related to Remembrance Day that is important to them as part of the ceremony. Our hope is to recognize the many different experiences and stories within our school community while creating a respectful opportunity to reflect on remembrance, service, sacrifice, and peace.

If your student or family would like to contribute something, please contact Brett at bcdibble@cbe.ab.ca by October 23 so that we can work together to determine how it could be included in the ceremony.

Parent Society Casino November 9 & 10 - Volunteers Needed

Once every 18-24 months, the Parents Association has the opportunity to receive an average of $60,000 to $80,000 to support the school course costs and community days, and to make large purchases such as computers and other expensive items to enrich student learning at Alti. This is how our student fees are only $10/year. In order to share in the AGLC’s profits for the fiscal quarter, all we have to do is provide volunteers to a casino for 2 days. Please consider supporting your student’s success and the community of Alternative High School through volunteering at this upcoming casino event in November.

The Casino Newsletter explains in more detail the event and the volunteer roles we need filled.

Please consider volunteering.  You can sign up for a shift using this link.

After you sign up, you will need to fill out a Casino Worker Volunteer form and send it to the Alti HS Parent Society Casino Chair.
