National Day of Truth and Reconciliation & Orange Shirt Day - Weds. Sept. 30

The day honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process.

In the spirits of Belonging and Generosity, on Tues. Sept. 29 after a week of learning more about Indigenous Culture and History, our students each will be invited to declare a Reconcili-ACTION they could take to acknowledge their role in reconciliation. We will use their voices to inform our activities for the year. 

All students are invited to wear orange on this day. 

Community Day: Friday, October 2

Students should have returned permission forms for our Community Day by last week.  Students should arrive at school by 8:50am on Friday, and will return for dismissal by regular time 2:00pm.  Please ensure your child has a water bottle and is dressed appropriately, including proper footwear for outdoor activities.  The school will provide a sandwich, fruit and treat for lunch, but parents are welcome to send food with their child. There is no food available for purchase. Please reach out to your mentor if you have questions. 

Parent Society Casino November 9 & 10

Once every 18-24 months, the Parents Association has the opportunity to receive an average of $60,000 to $80,000 to support the school course and community days, and to make large purchases such as computers and other expensive items to enrich student learning at Alti. This is how our student fees are only $10/year. In order to share in the AGLC’s profits for the fiscal quarter, all we have to do is provide volunteers to a casino for 2 days. Please consider supporting your student’s success and the community of Alternative High School through volunteering at this upcoming casino event in November.
